Ongoing projects for school

In one of my illustration classes, we were told to come up with a 30 head drawing...not many stipulations other than 30 heads....needless to say this was extremely difficult coming up with a design. I finally settled on a version of the support love banners for gay marriage and the heads are based on some old Andy Warhol fashion sketches.

Here was my first version that took me a week to come up with b/c I was so darn stuck. My brain literally went blank. I was not happy with this one b/c the spacing was off and the men's heads looked a little like aliens. I cut this one up and made it into the next picture.

This was part of the first version of the 30 heads.

Here is the current process of the 30 heads....it may take forever and I am not sure how I am going to pull it all together but ..here we are at a cross roads.

This is for the other illustration class. We had to take part of an object and draw a 3x3 inch section of the item. My teacher picked mine b/c I could not find anything I loved. She picked this flower and I drew the 3x3 inch square...didn't like it, so I broke the frame in two places ( drew outside the box). The section version is in process and it must be the same item but you must use stippling (small dots) to draw the item. As you can see...it will take awhile too.

Last...this is what started the 30 head drawing...I was going to make all the shoes have faces and have them lined up on the shelves in the mirror. You may see this again b/c I think I am going to use it for the base of the next project....check back for updates.

Observational Drawing Final

I finally took pictures of my final portrait that was put up at the school. I also took the final pics that went up of some of the other students in my class and they are very talented. We were suppose to use a mirror to draw ourselves on these large pages but during the beginning of the project, the teacher allowed us to use a pictures to draw. Please enjoy.

ME (mirror)...although my family does not think it looks like me and my teacher does...who knows.

Brandon "the badass" (picture) who is probably one of the most talented students I have run across.

Cody (picture)...very talented as well.
Deena (picture) who is a trained make up artist and very talented.
Deena also did this one of her friend which also ended up on the wall. The detail is great.
Haley (mirror..I think) I like the delicate nature of this one.

Josh (his charcoal from earlier in the course) He is also very talented and does skateboard design.
Sue (picture) she is great and I love her work. Sue also had the prof post this portfolio picture in the halls. You know how I love shoes.

This is Ben and Juan....Juan drew this but he drew it of Ben (another student) from when our teacher had us draw other students. It looks just like him.

Last but not least...

Ron (also the charcoal from earlier) very talented ..and had this one chosen to grace the walls.

This portrait of an unnamed peasant woman reveals that Cassatt's talent and sensitivity were well expressed quite early in her career. ..It did not photograph well but you get the idea of it.

I had a TON of problems with her nose and it is hard to see in the portrait but her nose did look very similar to this, even though it killed me to draw it like this....I am suppose to draw what I see....better luck next time.

Still life in Observational Drawing

Kinda of boring...but I am posting everything so I can look back and see what I have approved on and what I still need to work on.

Most of this was done by looking at the still life but everything on the far left was done by basic sketch and memory....soo bare with me.

Charcoal... in my ears

I have several new color projects I am posting soon, but in the mean time I wanted to post a charcoal we just did in Observational Drawing. It was extremely messy and I wore a white shirt to class that night (obviously not thinking). The shirt is now toast and I found charcoal all over the place (even in my ears), but I at least have something to show for it. It was done by covering the page in charcoal and then using an eraser to remove the charcoal to basically "draw" in the shadows ...and this was another upside down drawing.
