Photoshop 2 Class Final Portfolio Overview - Two more pieces

This was my last piece I did for my portfolio. It is another compositing layout. Each thing you see is a separate photo pieced together.

This is an illustrative piece I had to include. We had to take a drawing we have done and then illustrate it in photoshop. Not my favorite thing to do in photoshop, but I think it turned out nice.

Photoshop 2 Class Final Portfolio Overview - text work

We were to work with text in several styles.

Photoshop 2 Class Final Portfolio Overview - Photo Retouching

Part of our final for this class was to show our re-touching skills. These are photos I took for photography class last quarter.

Photoshop 2 Class Final Portfolio Overview - Compositing

These are compositing image I created for class

This was a multiplicity project. It is several pictures merged into one, to look like there are several of the same thing in the same picture.
This was another multiplicity picture with my pugs in the backyard.

These next three were part of a "campaign" I created for a this project. It is a play on Mother Earth talking to us through the things she gives us.

This was a logo I created as a play on the peacock "eyes".

Layout Class Overview

This class was a lot of fun and I was able to try out new things.
This one was our final. We were to pick any artist, find an article/interview with them and make a new four page spread layout with that article. I love this artist and if you don't know about her....look her up. She will make you re-think design.

This was a newsletter design we did earlier in the quarter. I was trying to be practical and used Jennifer's building as my client. This was challenging and fun. It has two sides and folds in half horizontally and then vertically.

OMG...This is another great artist. This was another 4 page spread layout that we were to do on an artist. She does some really cool stuff and you should check her out ASAP.

Overview of Projects from Graphic Symbolism Class

This project was our final. We had to make up a company that was opposite of our beliefs. I had a hard time thinking of something, and went with a gas company based on the cost of gasoline. We had to create a symbol that was based on typography, one that was symbolic and one that was descriptive. There was a whole back story and paper, but that is the boring part.

We had to create a logo for ourselves based on another paper we wrote. I always have a hard time designing for myself, but I really like how this turned out.

This is another version of my personal logo. This was the original but I changed it up and made it monotone, which I like much more.

This was one of our first projects, We were given words and we had to create a symbol that was basic and could cross cultural lines and language barriers. The family one is my favorite.

New Personal Projects

I made the smaller purse for my niece's 9th birthday and loved it, so I made the larger one for me!

I made this little pillow for my friend's newborn son. His name is on the other side and I did the classic "Beatles" walk b/c that is what she was doing the room in.

New Duvet Cover - two sided

Digital Illustration 2 Recap

Several Pieces were created during the quarter and are at the bottom of this post, but our final was to create an illustration portfolio. We were given several requirements and we were able to use previous pieces. The next few are items I had to create for the portfolio to complete the requirements.

Logo and Identity Package

Additional Logo and Identity Package

Logo
How to 10 step layout
Illustrated Word
Illustrated Word for class project
Line of Wine Labels
Robot we were to illustrate based on an image given to us.
Magnet designs for class project to help with promoting AIA. The ducks were hand drawn

Pie chart project to show illustrated information
Boot drawing..we were given a picture of this boot and asked to recreate the image.

Form & Space

This was a 3D class trying to help us think outside the box.

This was a Serial Plane project. We were to take a shape and then break it down into planes. Here is my inspiration: a classic glass decanter.
This is the computer mock up of the estimated size curve size.
Final Project...with removable top
This was a simple take home project. Take paper strips and create something. The first one I did in class looked horrible. This is the new one I did after sitting down in my studio and just knocking it out. The base is a thick mat board (11x17).
Spatial Cell project. I did not get a picture of the final but here is the computer mock up. This was also the second attempt...the first one is so bad it makes me cry and laugh when I think about it.
This was a group project where we had to do a full size cardboard cut out. This was the base. I did not get a picture of the final, but it has a black bar over the "censored" area and a tie that was hand painted by a classmate to say "it's my birthday".
The last project in this class was package design. I do not have pictures of the final products and point of purchase display but I will as soon as it goes up for display. My product was girl fishing equipment...called hook, line and sinker. Here is the logo.

Design History Recap

Design History was a great class. This is a recap of the projects he had us work on.

This project was after learning about Push Pin Studios and Milton Glaser. You should take some time to look over their work at http://www.pushpininc.com/ .

We were told to take an existing book or CD and redesign the cover using the style of push pin.

This was the final piece I turned in on top, and then next two were my original mock ups.

This was earlier in the quarter, where we were told to pick a designer or style we had been studying and design a poster of for an art opening. I chose Karel Teige who worked with some interesting photo montage and graphical elements. http://www.nyu.edu/greyart/exhibits/teige/

In this project, we were told design a book cover, title page and two page layout based on a designer or style and/or in their style. I chose Will Burtin who did really interesting things with mixing science and design. http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2007/november/will-burtin-forgotten-master-of-design
Book Cover
Title Page
Layout page one
Layout Page two
This was my final for this class. We were asked to design a portfolio cover for our own portfolio. No rules, no sizes, no instructions. This has a lot of detail that I am not sure pick up in this photo.

Intro to Photography Final Project

There were so many projects in this class, that I was unable to post them all. I think my final was my best work in the class. My final project was based on tattoos. There were ten final photos printed 8x10, matted and sleeved. Although only ten were the final pieces, there were hundreds of photos taken. They were all taken in my garage with natural light.

Concept Design Finals

During the quarter, we were to design a shoe, clock and a flash drive based on different specs.
Theose designs were hand drawn and for the final, we were to do a finalized product on the computer or some sort of pkg or advertising.

These were boots I designed for knife throwing..AKA - KillerBoots
This was the flash drive I designed for photographers. You can see the pictures from a screen on the drive itself, as well as from a inserted memory card. Oh...and the pkg.

The last one was my clock that spells out the words..and the fun packaging.

Concept Design Projects

Here are a few of the in-class projects we did in concept design. The class basically gets you to think outside the box.

Website Design Layout

Digital Imaging Website - The first two are the options that did not get picked, and then the final designs for the layout my teacher wanted me to move forward on.

Rough One Round Two

Design Final - Home page

Design Final - bio page

Design Final - blog page
Design Final - contact page
Design Final - Portfolio page

Yet another re-design - this one for digital Imaging

Our teacher wanted to test our Photoshop skills for our final. He had us take a CD cover and redesign it to change the type of music. I took the classic guns n roses and turned it into a hip hop album.

BEFORE

AFTER

CD art re-design

We were told to take an established band and redesign the art work.

Band Book - design of inside and out

CD art and CD tray art

CD tray card for sides and back

Kering - Design Term defined

Typography class final - our teacher assigned each of us a word in which we had to come up with a five by five design showing off that word. The top one was the winner..the store was megaflicks, but as you can see...the space ***err*** kerning - redesigned the stores sign.

Here is the much more boring layout...

Business Card Layout

Business card design for typography class...my teacher liked diamonds...so this was the winner.

Here were the original three designs...the second one is my favorite.

Menu Re-design

Design Fundamentals 2 - We were told to take a local restaurant's menu and re-design it. Here is what my final product looked like. The original is a little rough, but the restaurant is great. If you get a chance...go by and eat.
